On March 19th, Swann Galleries in new York will be holding their autograph auction. Among the many interesting autographs for sale is a rare letter by Egon Schiele penned a few weeks before his death from the Spanish flu. In it he complains of being ordered to appear a second time within a month before a military inspection board as well as his plans for an exhibition at the Secession and his work with the Hagenbund- the artists group which shared it’s views with the secession.
A unique piece of history and worth seeing if only for Schiele’s beautiful unique script which at times resembles the elegance of arabic script. Follow the link below to read the contents of the letter.
